First you need a planetary texture, do this in a paint program or get one from a place like thise --> The image hast to be square and fill the entire canvas. Using bryce the size doesnt matter you probably won't find an image larger than bryce can work with.
create a sphere
click on the small box with the "m" on it next to the sphere to enter the ML (Materials Lab)
click in the A column next to Ambient and Diffuse, this will bring up a texture panel to the left
click on the little button on the bottom that has the "P" then the pink button above it on the top of the panel
select one of the blank boxes and select your image
select the check mark.
give it a quick render
You will have to play with the textures surface settings (ambience,reflection,tranparency, and diffusion for the most part) to get the affect you want.
this trick is very useful for many many affects!
