Step #1. open you texture and go to Masks>New>From Image. There it will say "Source window:" choose you texture from the drop down menu. Under that it will say "Create mask from:" the are three options to choose from, I suggest "Any non-zero value". Now click ok.
Step #2. Go to Masks>edit or press Ctrl+K. Now select the eraser tool. There are Two buttons to use, Left mouse click to "add" the chrome (which you will see in the game if done properly) and right mouse click will "take away" the chrome on your texture. I suggest messing with the opticity so you dont have a solid chrome texture ( unless you want that).
Step#3. When your done with Step #2. go to Masks>Save to Alpha Channel. Click ok and then save it as "Alpha Channel 1" and then click ok.
Step #4. Now go to Masks>Delete. It will prompt you with the message "Would you like this masked merged into the current layer?" select No. Now your texture should look the way it did when you opened it.
Step #5. SAVE IT!
save your image as a .png. When you save it will promt you with this "Becuase of the limitations specific file format (and possibly the save option's you've selceted), blah blah blah
Select YES. thats it.
NOTES: #1. You MUST have interior maps and enviroment maps enabled for this to work.
#2. On alot of maps with snow and a few other maps this effect will not work ( this maybe cuz the map doesn't have an emap)
That's it. GL and I hope you like my tutorial.
EDIT: below are skins that i've done this effect too by editing the alpha layer but this tut is more towards on how to make it on interior textures.Statistics: Posted by Savage — Sun Mar 17, 2002 3:48 am
