i seem to recall them saying it would be impossible to fix the updater but that really cant be true at all.

The update server is not recognizing the player"s current version.
Solution:
A small number of users are having problems with the update server not correctly recognizing the updates available for the version installed, or recognizing that the version installed is the latest version. It will be necessary to manually download and install the proper patches to update to version 25034. If you have version 25034 installed, skip the download and patch installation and go directly to the directions below that discuss how to bypass the update server.
You may download the latest Tribes2 patches from our ftp site at .
To bypass the update server, enter the C:\Dynamix\Tribes2\Gamedata folder. Right-click directly on the Tribes2.exe file (will have the T2 icon) and select "Create Shortcut." This will create a shortcut to the Tribes2.exe file within the Gamedata folder. Right-click on the newly created shortcut, select "Properties," then add a "-online" (without the quotes) to the end of the target line, making sure that you leave a <space> between the end of the Target line and the "-online."
Example of the Target line: "C:\Dynamix\Tribes2\GameData\Tribes2.exe -online".
Use this new shortcut to start up Tribes 2 online - Lagg...
