THEN the heavens opened and i was finnally able to purchase tribes 2 (tribes 1 is still pending  ).....

belial bots were a real deal when i didnt got online ability, then botpilot was a major improvement....and i really believe that the AI implemented by Dynamix isnt that good, BUT it does not limit the bot capabilities, in fact if someone can make bots pilot tanks and stay as gunners...why the hell cant someone make them incredible smart and cunning adversaries?...;)

We are just waiting for that developer to arise from the depths of the web and make a timeless contribution to tribes

sorry if i was miscarried by this theme

I'm making some maps now, but I'm sure they'll never get played even with a good rating. This is one reason why I'm going to add bot support...so I can play them myself.

I do have a question though.

With all of the problems with bots that were listed above, does the bot 'support' itself cause any problems on a map, if the server does not run bots?

If it does, then I may want to make two versions of my map.

Thanks.

At their highest levels, bots are the MA'ers from hell who don't know where their strafe button is.

even dumb bots let me see holes in the defensive end of a map

maybe I jsut suck at making maps and need more help than most

it also makes the milionth run through of a map not so boring

other than that I don't think I will bother withthem all that muha until spark finds the golden rule that makes bots useful beyond the testing aspect

The bots, in my opinion, have had it these days, since most of us mappers make our bases and maps too intricate (and in some cases too FPS-unfriendly  ) for the bots to handle it.

I honestly think whoever is over there @ Sierra should revamp the bot AI to something mirroring the ones in Half-Life (those bots were excellent). But since they probably won't, the current bots seem to not like many things, such as:

1) Lava
2) FF's
3) Large Mountains/Hills (watch them kill themselves on Katabatic, it's gr8 fun :D )
4) Looooong Expanses of Water (They kinda do one of those "Lemmings jumping into the sea" movements  )
5) Vehicles (that is, unless you have bot vehicle installed)
6) Any sort of Air Map (*cough* Caldera, Air Support 2, Broadside, Terminal Velocity, etc  )
7) Very Intricate Base Layouts (Watch them hug the wall on Tombstone  )
8) Dueling in general (Like the time I got 2 players and 3 bots by myself that one time :D )
9) Mission Scripting (Rule #1 why Fountains of Paradise cannot support bots :( )
10) ANY sort of mod (this one is a given)

and so on. All things considered, bots are really great for some of the more bland and/or basic map layouts, but are really not worth it for most of the highly specialized maps we seem to make more and more these days. As for me, the tips above rule out bots in just about all of my maps...
