actually the tan^-1 notation is stupid. that means 1/tan which doesnt equal tan^-1

i also hope that mA doesnt mean milliamps. :P

I think he/she is getting the Z Axis by doing the mATan thingy using the X, Y from the Vectors Transform.

But what is the formula ?

On the same note; I noticed that rotations are not in whole numbers. I means if you Rotate an Object i only 1 Axis it is set in Degrees. But if you Rotate 2 or 3 Axis it is in decimals.

Is that Radians?

wheeee! i feel smart! yes it is radians.

a radian is another way of measuring angles. a radian is this:

the arclegnth divided by the radius equals the angle between the two radii in radians.

perhaps a picture will help:

now, obviously, the radius and the circumference are linked by pi.

the circumference is the whole of the circle, and the arclegnth can be expressed as a fraction of the whole circle. i can say that 3/8ths of the circumference is arclegnth.

now, the circumference is 2pi times the radius. so then, i can say that the arclegnth is (3*(2pi * radius))/8 or (3/8) * 2pi * radius. then, i divide by the radius (radians = arclegnth / radius) so i get 6pi/8 or 3pi/4. there is the angle in radians.

now, if i made the arclegnth %100 of the circumference, then i would call it 1(2pi * radius)/1 = 2pi radians. then i get the angle by dividing by radius = 2pi. this means that 1 revolution = 2pi = 360 degrees. that means that 1/2 a revolution = pi radians. 1/4 revolution = pi/2 radians etc. you can see in the code above, they have added 180 degrees or pi radians.

therefore, radians express angles in terms of pi, but you can get away with just numbers like 1 radian, 2.23232 radians etc.

now, i wont go into the complexity of calculating areas in radians.

here is how you convert from radians to degrees and back again.

degrees to radians: d * (pi/180)
radians to degrees: r * (180/pi)

tan, sin, cos and all that suff will still work as will the connection between circumference and diamater. however, tan, sin and cos will give differend values.

what i'm confused about is the getword argeuments that they've used. i think they're the i, j and k components.

they're calculating the z rotation angle since tan = opposite/adjacent. obviously they're working with velocity vectors; moving from cartesian to polar.

he has the i component (this is like in a graph/grid) and the j component. you can use tan to calculate the angle between the resultant (hypotonuse) and the x-axis
