What file types are graphics stored as? I've heard .PNG, but what does this parrellel? .BMP? .BM? .JPG? GIF?

Yes, all images in T2 are in .png. PNG has better quality that jpg (mainly because I think it has a wider range of colors). Also, png does not compress as far as jpg.

So is there in-game support? How easy is it to import graphics? How easy is it to edit .PNGs? Is there a program out there that handles them?

Not sure what you mean by in-game support.
Textures (for the most part) must be in the "textures" folder. If they are part of a .wad that you used on an object w/ WC, then they must be in the "textures/<nameofyourwad>/" directory.
For shapes that use custom textures, I think it is just the "textures" directory.
Any photo editor/graphic editor worth its code should support .png (there are free photo editors that you could use to convert an image file into a .png if needed).

I use photo shop to play with .png files.
A Lot of time I find that making the textures .bmp files and tweaking them with corel phot paint and corels bryce will give you alot more options than photo ( and better results when reducing or increasing the size of the texture )
Tribes2 will run the .bmp files but they are rather large comapred to .png so I would suggest converting them bsack to the png format before packaging anything for DL. As for running tests and such .bmp works jsut fine.
