When are there too many turrets?

i have always find that a good combination of turrets, sentry, mortar, missile ...and so on...is good for a map that have either vehicles or easy entrances to critical base/flag places....its adds some teamplay so you have to take base defenses one by one and attemp to do capping then....if not, you are dead meat.

But 20 base turrets is way too much...in fact a few days ago i made a beta review of one the maps posted (homeworld)...and it has the same issue...too many turrets...

Its not healthy for the clients system in terms of FPS..and its not healthy for the map because it slows gameplay...

Ill get a screenshot in of my base soon. The base really needs those turrets. It is HUGE! After play testing it with a bunch of people, I may take a few of them off the back, but there is a lot of ground for these turrets to cover.

I would suggest 3 turrets MAX. With out missles/mortars, that place is impossible to crack within game time. Even against lax deffenders (see Necrobones' "SBFortress").

You are right... there are a few too many turrets there... lol

I think ill cut it down a lot. the turrets are too dense at the back, and the ELF/Plasma mix is a little too deadly. In addition, I just found out how long ranged plasma turrets can be...

but I want to have a larger than average turret network (maybe stay with six including the entrance turret. and sprinkle them around to base rather than just the rim. Any suggestions on turret types? They are not going to change thoughout the battle.

I was thinking 3 rim plasma turrets, one entrance mortar turret, one flag ELF and one Missle turret on the armoury. Should still be a tough nut to crack. Given a proper defense, itll be deadly. But since Im a little unexperienced at mapping (a little as in a lot) I was wondering what everyone elses suggestions were.

I believe I placed that many turrets because the bases were not as far apart as I meant them to be, and the bases were much bigger than expected. In fact, I have an empty space that I couldnt fill with useful buildings in there, and I found it to be a bit of a hazard for the defenders because it was very vulnerable to incoming forces

Oh well. I better take the advice here and stop being so stuborn.

Has anyone recieved the impression that I like using smilies?

Color Code:
Blue circle = Plasma (on a platform)
Green circle = Elf (I wasnt sure where the flag is)
Red circle = Missle

This should be plenty hard. Especially without missles and mortars.

Hey! That way, I could dump the archway! My only addition to that would be to add another plasma turret on the ridgeline, on the right side of the screenshot.
