I don't think sierra or marweas reall had any "security" fears as we would think of it. It just dawned on me the other day why they don't want autodownload and it could be one or more of the following reasons.

#1 apropriate content- tribes2 is rated for all ages and with autodownload pornagraphy and other content could be transmitted since sierra runs the master servers they could be held liable for exposing minors to this content.

#2 copywrite content - content such as art,pictures, music among other things could be transmitted which would make sierra just another KAZAA and open to law suit.


Those two reasons alone would make me shiver in my boots if I were sierra.

Ok. Here goes.

Any new buildings- Clientside.
Any alterations to the terrain, except putting in/removing holes- Serverside.
Any new textures- Clientside.

For specific files...

.mis- Serverside, unless it refers to something clientside.
.ter- if edited, clientside. If not edited, you won't need it.
.spn- Serverside.
.nav- Serverside. You won't need it unless you run bots.
.wav/.mp3- Doesn't make the map clientside, but they must be downloaded to be heard.
.dif- Clientside.
.png- Clientside if used as a texture. The loading screen is clientside, but will not affect gameplay.
.dml- Clientside.
