Map Mods

I thought I should start a discussion on the topic.

For those who don't know, map-mods are self contained mods within a map, altering the gameplay for one map only. This allows people to make their map unique, tweak the balance to suit the environment, and show off cool effects.

I just released a map, Dune Sea, that is a map mod. The only problem with it is that it contains custom .dts shapes, which will cause trouble for servers due to the way dts validation works. However, if the custom .dts shapes were not included, it could be made server side.

There is a lot of potential for map mods. I can imagine doing some really cool things with it. You can add secret weapons, specialized vehicles, new stations, special sensors... limited only by your imagination and coding skills. I haven't tried it yet, but I believe its possible to change the gametype code temporarily to accomodate the gameplay you want to implement.

Heres something I'm going to try: I'm going to try and add CnH gameplay (holding a tower gives you points) to stock CTF, allowing a server to have a different gametype in the regular CTF map cycle.

So... what do you guys think of map mods?

I think they're a great idea. They allow a mapper almost unlimited freedom. A few good weapons might be added to mix up gameplay. I like your gametype idea, as you might be able to change siege from capturing a switch to defending an asset(s) such as your generator. If your gen goes offline, the round ends.

its a pretty big map mod type thing, since almost everything will be custom and the maps will all have differnces in the gameplay, we just need more people to help with the sheer amount of customness
