My Return To Tribes2 Bot mayhem !

hello

i used to play tribes2 offline pretty religiously.
now im back !!

after seeing a couple of you guys dedication to making the bots up to par.

ut2004 bot support is great. you should check it out.
theres also a project to convert tribes2 vehicles and such to ut2004!

but besides ut2004 i would like to play tribes2 and give it another long look. cause i really loved playing the bots with a few friends on LAN.

question 1 : tribes 2 is now under 5$ and i know its gonna be a free download soon. does the new cd and download come updated with the latest patch or do you need to patch it yourself ?

question 2 : what Bot related files 'MUST' i have.
like maps ? or Bot code updates? etc?
please suggest some great file updates for this Bot player !

i remember planettribes.com had a site where this coder updated the bot code in the retail maps to include more ai variations.
Belial's map updates? does this ring a bell ?

anyhow i just wanna play again with the best possible Ai for Tribes2.

is BotPilot still necasary or is there a mod who has taking over dominance with Bot Ai. please recommend something for me and my friends :-)

welcome and if ur lookin for cool bots for Lan parties i'd highly recommend any of Lagg_Alots maps the bots own

also check the miscilaneous forum theres a topic on bots with mauals and links and helpfull posts

you'll hafta ask some1 else about botpilot because i dunno much about it the most i can make my bots do is deploy a turret

theres a topic on bot pilot somewhere...

ohh also im not sure about this but the newest patch hasnt been released yet and the topic on the latest patch disapperaed to answer an earlier question

From my use of botpilot(zod's vl2), some of the ai is very nice, and the rest makes you wish you hadn't bothered. Bots use disks, heavy mortar, laser, and missiles (no vehicle is safe) when and where they should, and at farther ranges. One cool part was a bot below me on the ground, I was up on a rooftop, only my shoulders were visible to him as he fought another bot, yet he hit me with the disk from where he was at a 45 degree angle, and about 60 meters away -I had not shot at him to trigger him to attack me. Those parts of the ai are outstanding. They will even defend against missiles by tossing flares.







But...... the pilots get stuck on terrain, buildings, each other, and some bots stand there and do nothing, even if you toss the enemy flag onto them. This is the reason not to bother with botpilot. In the future there may be developements to core ai code that will make them more effective, but for now everything is map dependant. If I could get the non pilot part setup in my server that would be cool. Well, I mean everything but the ai that stood around the whole map.

im not aware if the latest Tribes2 patch updates those Bot Files [.nav?] files ?

I highly suggest that you keep tabs on Lagg Alots bot development. He's made some sweet ass bot pilots that are worth checking out.

Heck, you can see them at work on his server "DESTRUCTION ZONE" on some of the maps. If you wanna see the bots going at it in shrikes, check out hillside on his server.

is the botPilot supported mod called "classic"?

i also downloaded His mod with the gametype 'jailbreak'.
this mod is supposed to support bots so ill give it a shot.

Just so you all know. This month's Computer Gaming World has Tribes and Tribes 2 for free on their DVD Rom in the magizine it also has some Tribes Vengence article's. I bought it today!

That is with some updated code from Lagg and ZOD added it in. However Lagg is working on a new and vastly improved Bot Pilot. Check out his maps. Dude!
