Sounds like they removed a lot of the stuff that hurt T2 ... cool. Many of the most successful games in history have been very simple. You can be good at many things, but you can only be truly great when you focus on one thing.

No more jetpacks, however, is a huge mistake in my book. Possibly a fatal mistake. The true three-dimensionality of Tribes, along with the freedom of movement in outdoor environments, is what sets it apart from boring run and gun games like Quake.

As for Pay to Play, I don't see why people are so against it. There have been several games that succeed with that model. You just have to have the right style of game. I could easily see a successful massively multiplayer online game set in the tribes universe. It certainly wouldn't be CTF though. It would basically be planetside. (Which is why I hope T3 won't be Pay to Play, since I enjoy it for the small team action. I can play Planetside if I need the MMO fix.)

In other words, Pay to Play by iteself doesn't spell doom for a game ... Pay to Play with the wrong gameplay model does.

They'd better leave in all the options that T2 has. Hey, I'm not able to assume all roles but at least you have the option of doing whatever you feel best suited for. I'm too tired and uncarring for sarcasm. All i know is that i'm gonna need to get another computer to even try T3 out on. I know it's likely to be bug ridden from the start, siarra game, but i would like to give it a chance.
