simple:
open up your mission file with WordPad or soemthing like that, then edit a line that has the mission type and edit it to Arena. check out someone's tutorial for this.

The latest Tribes editor is not the same as that seen in the tutorials. Use the tutorials provided and for information on using the newest editor.

I didn't have time to read everyones post on this thread, but this is what I would do since you are new to mapping.
Read all the tutorials on this site.
Be sure to read my spawngraph and spawnsphere tutorial... (this will make it so your guys don't start outside the mission area)

look in the tut section of the site. the way i learned to map was printing out necrobones' tut and then staring at it blankly in some parts as it made no sence, but if you want to get the jist of mapping thats a good place to start

U can avoid these thing if U back up ur files B4 editing ur map!
B4 U start editing make a copy of ur .mis, .spn, .nav ( if bot supported ), an .ter ( if u have custom terrain ). This way if U run into problems U can fall back to ur last know working map.
