Do i have to use the factory version?

Hey,
I just started to do mapping, and as im here you can prolly tell that its not going to well. I tried editing the maps that i wanted and when placing a building it would continually crash the game. I then read in a couple places that i need to have the "factory version" of the game without the patches. So i reinstalled the game and there are problems with the factory version (holes in the terrain, grey streakes EVERYWHERE) that make the mapping very difficult and frusterating. Is there a way that i can do mapping with all the patches on and without it crashing?

try just placing the buildings using the "factory" version of the game... and then switch back to patched to finish.

or...

use "The Catalog" to choose your buildings first

(T2 stuff at bottom)

and then using the patched T2, place your buildings "AT ORIGIN" while looking away and to the sky (and move the camera as far from the origin as possible)

then hit RELIGHT as soon as you can... then move the buildings from the origin. Annoying, yes, but it works most of the time to avoid the UE.

You should be able to use the latest patched version of T2 and the editor.

To avoid the UE's when placing interior objects, select what you want, get it IN the map, then immediately hit Relight on the left hand menu. THEN you can move the interior object around and get it placed as you want, populate it, etc.

That's what I've been doing for some time now, and it works for most people.

I must be charmed or something, I only get UEs when I drop an interior, then go to play mode, then walk inside the building. I can always drop a building and move it around, scale it, etc before I ever relight.

You must have the version that is exclusive to those with connections

I must be lucky too. I use the patched version, rarely hit the relight button, and can't remember what a UE error looks like.

for me (and many), as soon as I place an interior and LOOK at it with the current patched version, bam-o.

same goes with interiors that don't have interiors... I think even walls can crash me up.

Actually Star, I'm pretty sure Bytor was using 23669 when doing his editing.

I have had no problem in the latest version of Tribes and doing editing...the only thing I cannot do that I haven't tried in the original yet is building the spawngraphs and placing flags...
