Bad Face error... how do I find the error?

then again.. there's always the horrid prospect that a whole ton of your brushes are invalid..

If you frequently compile, then you'll know how far there couldn't be an error.. but if you're like someone I know.. you don't compile at all. (No, no names forthcoming) At least, they didn't.. now they do.

If that's the case.. you'll get the same error wether you have one or one-hundred errors.. and you'll never know if you've fixed number 45 and number 29 is now throwing errors.. or if you've just modified a perfectly normal brush, and there are still the 100 errors.

Gosh, that's a terrible feeling..

Nah. Morian will find errors where there are none at all.

But if it is his spiral, I know exactly how to fix it.

[Edit: On second thought, the spiral might not be miss shapen afterall...]

Simple method to locate errors:

Back up your file, and delete a brush. Then try to compile your file. If it compiles successfully, the brush you deleted was invalid. If not, continue deleting brushes until you find the one that's causing problems.

Note that if there is more than one invalid brush, this method won't locate all of them. However, at least it lets you know which ones are valid.

did you try the soloution suggested here?


go down to the 'bad face of brush' error

check every brush that you edited with the vertex tool.
as i understand it the halflife engine can handle this error so alt-p will not come up with anything.

to find your bad brush, you go through alot of trial and error
