Losing "dust" from terrain

To be absolutely honest, vehicle dust (i think) is a factor of your texture settings, and possibly the type of terrain.

However, I can tell you this: never use a vehicledust emitter, they have this odd way of turning strange colors

I discovered that when working with Torque (V12) We were having problems getting the footpuffs to show up.

So I did some searching through all of the T2 stuff (I extracted every .vl2 file)

That command was in one of the terrain related files.


This is also how the shiney material was done for the chutes. You can specify a texture (building, landscape, etc) to have a specific Environment map attached to it.

I looked through every .cs and .ter file I have looking for something similar to this variable, but to no avail.

I was hoping to fix the "footsteps on hard ground" problem by playing with the "sound: 0" variable in LabRat's example.

I was able to determine that the sound is determined by the first terrain texture laid down. If the first texture is rock, you hear footsteps on rock. If the first texture is grass, you hear footsteps on grass. Manipulating the terrain itself does not fix it.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the way the editor lays down textures, you cannot re-order the textures and have the end result look the same visually. I painstakingly recreated the terrain textures on a map to get the correct footstep sounds, but the end result was visually quite different from the original.





I was hoping it would be as simple as changing a setting in some script or terrain file, but if it can be done that way, I have not discovered the method.

If anybody has some ideas on this subject, I would definately appreciate hearing about it.

hmmmm i have an idea. are you familiar with the code that pulls down a list of options for a object? (more information-->)[/URL]
anyways, you can use it to modify just about anything. try entering the name of some mission template, or something related to your problem into the field. last time i used this function, i saw an option that looked like findObjectcode() or something along that line. (sorry about my vagueness, but im recalling this from memory) just maybe u will come across the solution to your problem
