Doesn't it have to be a certain bit depth, like 8 bit?

Not to my knowledge...I make mine 24-bit greyscale .pngs in the GIMP and they work just fine...I can make some sweet canyons that way.

All is well, and thanks you all for your response! I did change it to 8 bit and that seemed to work - Although someone said it shouldn't matter, and I don't see why it would....

When making heightfields (and this is just me) I usually set the compression level of the .png to 3 or 4, I think the GIMP's default is 6 or 7 or something like that.

P.S.::eek: I'm just 'somebody' now? I did say it didn't matter, and if you want some non-8-bit heightfields, feel free to send me your 8-bit .pngs and I'll see what I can do.
