Mission Critical by Ready AKira on June 24, 2001

Capture the Flag Other Snowing Bots Client Side Custom Textures

Mission Critical take place on a small planet outside the Storm homeland. Each side has a main base with two generator towers spread out to the left and right of the base. One of the gen Towers is protected by a forcefield. It is nessecary to take out the generator in the rather unprotected tower and locate the two solar panels that power the forcefield in order to kill the power to the main base. The flags are hidden deep in the basement of the main base. Located in the center of the map is a control tower which controls numerous turrets across the map. Flight without control of this tower is almost impossible, making teamwork a MUST. I know there are alot of fog haters as do I. But, I liked the idea of flying above the clouds so there is a thin layer of fog at about 175 meters up.

The first thing that struck me about this map was the use of fog and terrain. It is very well done and makes this a very pretty map. The objective is a creative looking structure. Capturing that objective gives your team a HELL of a lot of turrets, the majority of which are embedded in the main canyon's walls. I had one hell of a time trying to pilot a wildcat through the canyon with all those turrets there. The objective gives your team so many turrets and sensors that I expect it to be well fought over. The map is fairly large and the base split into different places. This is a map for a larger number of people. Very nice terrain.

I liked this map very much, and the fog adds to map.I also like the fact that you can sneak through the mountians and drop into the enemy base. the flag is not hard to find or get to, but is easy to defend. the Objective helps out alot, some of the turrents dont have barrels, though. But the objective does help give you early warning of enemys and procection for air attack. The flight ceiling is a little low, but that might just be me. Bots seem to either defend or go for the objective, and that is about all they do, might be the distance. There are nice touches to the map and the flight coming out of the fog into the canyon is very nice view. Very good job.

It would've surely received an A+ if it was server-side. A very visually appealing map but with a strategic component. This map feels great ,but I have yet to play it with a large number of people( which is almost crucial for a map this size )due to it being a client-side map. I look forward to more maps by Akira ,so long as they're SS..still, I recommend downloading it even if you have no intentions of running a server, but just so if you see it being played, you can check it out.

NICE! The idea of the turrets placed around the map was awesome. I can only hope to see this map in rotation on a server somewhere so I can play it with alot of people.

Downloaded it a while ago, tested it a few mins ago. Looks nice but the fog is a crazy transition, as shown by the screens. Not a big prob tho. The billion turret idea is an odd one at the least, but creative. I'd think it would hurt online play a lot though. The first team to get the objective would have an easy time defending it wouldn't they?

Well, I didn't think it would since all you have to do is walk, jet (not fly) from the upper level instead of the canyon. Anyways, I am working on my next map (name tba) and this one will be more of a tradition tribes format, but will have some interesting changes.

You are a brave mapper to put the flag THERE. This is a wonderful environment, as frustrating as it will be to those who want 55 second capping maps. I particularly like the off-set gens, which are tactically critical but won't stop a flga grab. Very simple and well-designed map, all considered. My only gripe is the odd-FPS drop I get on this map. I don't understand why it happens, but something is causing it.

I think this is a great map. A few problems with the bots (they get stuck trying to get through impassable forcefeilds). It also gets frustrating trying to claim the objective once the enemy has entrenched themselves there unless your playing with an organized team.
