Capture the Flag Lush Clear Client Side Custom Textures Custom Shapes
Resurgence is my first release of a completely client-side map as well as my first release of a CTF map so I wanted to make something special that looked cool and played well. I spent several weeks working on it intermittently before releasing it as beta and now as a final version.
The terrain was made using a heightfield with smoothing and texture application using the T2 editor (my intention was to make something very skiiable, which is how the map turned out.) The interiors were made in World Craft then tweaked based on how they worked in the map.
Both sides of the map are identical (mirrored map) so there are no drastic differences for either team. The map works best for a lower number of players, likely something in the range of 7 vs. 7 due to the extreme skiiability of the map as well as the proximity between the two bases. Both bases are relatively small, with two solar panels on the roof of each, protecting both the front door and the roof entrance. While taking out the base is pretty easy, so is repairing all the assets in a short amount of time, as a repair pack is located in the base itself at all times. The flags are in a pretty wide open field, though they are on an elevated stand which is also protected by two base turrets. While the defense won’t have many problems getting to the flag to defend it, the offense will likewise have little difficulty clearing the flag. Also, at the very center of the map, there is a small cache of health which can make for some interesting capping routes since cappers will be able to easily regain a significant portion of their health if their route takes them through this area. Flag standoffs are likewise quite common, which make for some interesting fights in a mobile and wide open area.
Overall, Resurgence is a fast-paced and heart-pounding map that leaves a lot of options open to the players. I hope everyone enjoys playing it as much as I enjoyed making it.
