Siege Volcanic Clear Night

•Offensive team: Must destroy the forcefield gen first, revealing the lava gen. Keep the lava gen down long enough to lower the lava level, revealing the switch at the bottom.

•Defending team: Defend the lava gen, because the lava level never goes up again! Protect your forcefield generator, which although is out in plain view, will keep all enemies from your lava gen. Two equipment gens in the basement power all your equipment except for the lava pump.

•Notes
-The bots would not work with the lava, sorry guys. They would just keep jumping in before the lava level went down.

I only gave it a B+ because I didn't have much time to play it on the server I was on. Excellent map though.

P.S. I will be posting my first map soon. It's a Siege map.

In the birdseye view map pic where it says "Lava Pool(empty in pic)" the 'pic' doesn't refer to the pic labeled main base, it refers to the lava pool on the map.

I saw in the code that you noted the basis was the map polar dip, however you did not note it anywhere that most people will see that it was from polar dip.

by powdahound on August 6, 2001 · Rating:

Sorry that offends you, I also didn't write the code. I'm not a t2 scripter by any means. Talk with the scripter if it matters a lot. And the polardip map had nothing to do with the gens if I am correct.

by t-b0n3 on August 6, 2001 · Rating:

I think what he means, powdahound, is that you didn't put the Polar Dip credit in the mission description, so that when people join the game, they know where it came from. This is probably my fault, since I didn't ask you to put it in. My bad. Sorry, Dev, and Scuba.

by Slamscape on August 7, 2001 · Rating:

Good job on the map, very finished looking, pretty good balance, only gripe I have is that the lava takes hella long to recede, since you can repair and the lava stops the offense will need to have the gen down for 3 minutes or so (I didn't time exactly) just to reach the switch. Most siege maps are split second captures. Getting the generators down and capturing, against most teams the generators will be repaired within seconds

by powdahound on August 7, 2001 · Rating:

with the easy Ho terrain the FF gen should be down 99\% of the time since it's spammable and then the lava gen will be down a lot. this prevents the fast 30 sec captures on most pubs. this makes a siege game last around 25 minutes, which makes it 10x more fun :)

I love playin this map, its fun dropping a satchel on the lava generator, escaping and watching the lava drop. i wish more servers would convert to siege!

all i can say to you powda is..

nice. this is definately the best seige map i have ever seen not originally made by dynamix.

gratz.

What I was refering to was that you based your map on Polar Dip but didn't mention it on this page in the description. It is not that big of deal, took like 5 or 10 minutes to write the code. Anyways, nice work on the map and I think I will probably package it in the next version of the Havoc mod that is released, along with Polar Dip.

by Red Shifter on August 8, 2001 · Rating:

I see the reason why this map is called "Patience". You have to wait for a few hours for the lava to go down. This map takes a very long time, and the manuevering that is required with jetpack to get the switch before the lava is all the way down is very difficult, seeing as you must be able to air-strafe very effectively. The reason it didn't get an A+ is that the map just seems far too slow.

Red Shifter - The Legendary Cynic of Siege

by Star on August 8, 2001 · Rating:

Well, Red Shifter I must admit I'm rather annoyed by that. I helped looked at it (not much but some) with powda and t-bon3 prerelease and we all agreed the speed was just right. I also just now took the time to count how long the gen has to be down for the switch to be reachable; 5 minutes 20 seconds. Of course, that is if the gen is down all the time, which it won't be. Like powda said before, the repairing/destroying will probably boast it up to about 25 minutes which is about right for a siege map. Too often, siege maps are won too fast and I think this map is a welcome change from that trend. Also, if anyone cares, it takes 7 min 30 sec for all the lava to disappear from the volcano.

by t-b0n3 on August 8, 2001 · Rating:

Well, we couldn't go much faster. It starts to look really cheesy the faster you go. I was kinda worried about how long it would take, but I played this map on a public server, with 34 people, and it didn't drag on forever, like I was affraid. Took about 8-9 minutes to cap the switch. And, it was fun as hell. I'd give it an A+ if I wasn't tied to it.

by powdahound- on August 8, 2001 · Rating:

This is powda, i just had to use a diff nick so it would let me post :)
I agree with bone. All i can say to the people that say it takes to long is not to make your decision until you've played it on a pub, from O and D angles. It has faster gameplay than respite with tons of hotspots and the thrill of getting the switch is like tagging on alcatraz. I've played 3 games on it and the slowest cap i saw was 13.5 minutes, while most were around or under 10. It truly is a lot of fun and really makes for hairline games that aren't 5 minutes long. it's on the geez siege server (link for ip is on this page up above). try it out sometime. wow that's long :(

by TheMatt2000 on August 10, 2001 · Rating:

I must also agree with the majority, this map kicks :)

It's missing the + because of lack of bots, but with the lava, that can't be helped... :)

by geekcola on August 10, 2001 · Rating:

Absolutely great map, the best Siege map I've seen here. I wish the lava would rise just a little faster, but overall incredible work.

Good all around map, better then some of the crap dynamix has released. Since dynamix went down maybe you can get geek interested in siege again :).

OMG! This map 0wns j00. I love the lava. The fastest time ive seen it capped is 7 minutes or something... very quickly. HO is a big factor in this map. Nice work.

by Hummer6606 on August 13, 2001 · Rating:

Simply put, this map is incredible. The lava effect makes for spme completely different strategies. Very well made and visually appealing as well. Definitely one of my favorites.

by TseTse on August 13, 2001 · Rating:

Definately one of the best SS maps, and it's great to see SIEGE maps get this kind of support! The dropping lava certainly does add a while new dimension to the game. I found that most new players had no idea how to organize. Once teams are organized, this is just a massive mortar spam fest, racing against time. Likewise, the FF gen is basically totally useless in that it is down 99\% of the time (and will be so in any serious play). Even with those issues, it's simple and a blast.

by Byte- on August 13, 2001 · Rating:

Well, After playing this map, the only thing missing is Bot support, which can't be done due to lava, so it does deserve an A+, because thats not powda's fault.
The scripting for the lava is ingenious to say the least, and I expect to see more of it.
I saw a few people gripe about waypoints for Generators, but those are unnecessary as they are not an objective.
Overall, Great Map, Requires Actual Teamwork and no lone 60 second captures.
Good Job!

by DigitalBlaze on August 14, 2001 · Rating:

By far the best custom map i've seen... the lava makes for very interesting gameplay, and the big flat midfield is great for lancing heavies. It surely requires teamplay, especially on the D side.

Cant wait to see the next map outta this duo =)

by Bytor on August 15, 2001 · Rating:

Hey all, just wanted to let you know that I removed the bogus comment from "n0body" ... giving a map a D because his team wasn't able to hold off the heavy offense ... that's just sad. He also left a bogus name and email address. And he said it's unbalanced. How can a Siege map be unbalanced? It can be VERY difficult to capture, yes, but that doesn't make it unbalanced.

This is truly a great map. The only thing I will mention is that it has a tendency to spam the server console with errors once the map ends. When I hosted it real quick to look at something, the console was filled with errors for at least 10 minutes after I stopped playing the level. At that point when I turned Tribes2 off in order to stop the errors. Two errors rotated back and forth, they are as follows: "Scripts/Patience.cs (0): Unable to find object: '3508' attempting to call function 'getTransform'" and "Scripts/Patience.cs (0): Unable to find object: '3508' attempting to call function 'setTransform'". The part of the Patience.cs script that is causing the errors came from the map Polar Dip which does not have these errors. The error is being caused by the last few lines code in the patience.cs file. I believe it has something to do with the game.powerIsUp == "1" function. Hope that helps.

I'll get t-b0n3 to check that out :) I think the script may be looking for a generator in other maps with the same exact name as the "LavaGen". We'll fix that if possible. Thanks PJ :)

by powdahound on August 15, 2001 · Rating:

-n0body: Very lame to post without a valid name. The repair pack is on a platform over the lava, splitting the distance between the two generators.
-DRIFTER: Sorry if i've left rude comments. My intentions are good and I like to give people my full ideas. :)

Sorry, havent played it(no time), but i wanted to mention, the polar dip code should be credited to [HvC]Dev_ , not me. I map, he codes. I couldnt code my way out of a wet paper bag :). Well, actually i could, but it would take a while....

Excellent map PH...please let me know if you update the code on the map as i plan to keep it in the rotation on -=GeeZers Siege=-

by PJ on August 15, 2001 · Rating:

Great! I'll let Bytor know its coming. One other thing, I've seen a lot of people in game, as well as some people on this site mention that they can't find the defending team's repair pack. After some hunting (ok, I cheated and viewed the .mis) I found it was on a platform over the lava. (A great place IMHO) You might consider adding a line in the MISSION QUOTE that says where the repair pack is. Might clear up a lot of confusion that players new to the level seem to have. Just a thought. =) -PJ

Powda put a lot of thought into this map and it shows. Great design with simple execution. Though don't expect a free lunch. When the countdown expires, it's all work. Satisfaction is the reward.

Yeah yeah I gave it an A, irrespective of my constant bitching on pubs :). The HO route to the primary gen is a fark, otherwise leet Siege map.

This map is great! It didn't receieve my highest rating, because I beleive the lava level goes down WAY to slow. If a server has a time limit of bellow 15 min for siedge games, and takes 5 mintues to go down, you have 10 mintues at least of keeping or attaking the gens to take it down.

by powdahound on August 18, 2001 · Rating:

A newer version has replaced the old one now. Please redownload if you are a server admin as the new version takes out the console spam. NO gameplay elements were changed. [HvC]Dev and Scuba were added to the credits along with a repair pack location to the load screen. Thanks, and enjoy. :)

Dude, grades are kind of important. If you didn't get much time to play it... it should effect my overall grade. Play it enough until you feel you can give an accurate grade. Altho it may sound selfish, the top 10 user rated _is_ important and shouldn't be effected by the ammount of time _you_ had to play the map.

Well, I just got off playing it on -=Geezer's Siege=- and liked it, but I do find a couple elements lacking... HO is the key in this map as in many others, but the map itself appeared very baren and dull at times... oh well, it was still fun to cap out in 7 minutes :). Maybe it's just me...
